Flavours from Cookham!

Christmas lunch, full of flavours from Cookham!

We all know that there are plentiful choices of lovely places to eat out in Cookham over the festive period; there are restaurants, cafes and pubs to suit all tastes and budgets nestled along the High Street.

For those preferring to cook at home over Christmas, there are also some wonderful ways to make festive meals extra special and indulgent – thanks to the variety of amazing artisan producers in Cookham.

Cookham Bridge may be temporarily closed, but the village is well and truly open this festive season, and the independent shops, boutiques and artisans are ready with a warm welcome – there are so many reasons to support local this Christmas.

Friday’s offer even more reason to take a trip to Cookham, as the fabulous Metre Market takes place in Cookham Dean from 08.30 to 1.00pm – bringing fresh local produce straight to the heart of the village.

For traditional Christmas lunch, full of flavour from Cookham, here’s some inspiration!

Copas Turkey’s – have a full range of award-winning Christmas fare including turkey, geese, salmon, ham, sauces, gin – they even have their own Copas Farm branded honey now too!   And, when you visit, you’ll notice the beautiful entrance festive garland around the door – created by another Cookham business The Event Styling Co.

Cowdery’s Traditional Butcher’s – there has been a butcher’s shop on the same premises in Cookham Rise since 1888!   Now, in his 5th year of ownership, Ged Cowdery continues the tradition of providing first-class meat and poultry that is a cut above the rest, 7 days a week!

The Old Butchers Wine Cellar - is a family owned business, and specialises in wine sourcing and supply; the owners, Angela and Paul, have been in the wine trade since the 1970s – they will offer great advice on matching wines to food types, run monthly wine clubs and open a wine bar on Friday’s and Saturday’s, where you can enjoy selected cheese and charcutier platters, sourced from local suppliers alongside the sumptuous wine choices.

Metre Market – pop along on Friday mornings to enjoy a wide range of fresh produce from local suppliers, including cakes & sweet treats, bread & bakery goods, seasonal organic fruit and vegetables… and artisan gift wares (did you know that when you buy from a small business the owner really does do a happy dance?!) … Check out the Metre Market website, to view the upcoming sellers for Friday; it’s updated each preceding Tuesday.

Agosti Gelato – Inspired by Italy, and created in Cookham, award winning Agosti Gelato source their cream from small herds of cows in Guernsey, and fruit in season, locally sourced with flowers and herbs – sometimes from the owners own garden!   Their gelatos would be super special for a festive treat!

Sweet Marie’s Party Shop – have a delectable range of party accessories, table wear, environmentally friendly crackers and table gifts, stocking stuffers and all the finishing touches to make your celebratory meals at home extra special.

Devine Flowers – will create the most amazing table centre, door wreath or gifting bouquet for your Christmas celebrations at home.  If you prefer to make your own, give them a call and they’ll arrange one of their wreath making kits for you.

Whilst browsing the shops in Cookham, do pop into the Teapot Tea Shop or Parea Deli for a festive pick-me-up, the village is starting to look really festive already – it’s a lovely place to visit this winter.
